Three Essential Behaviours for Climbing the Career Ladder

Recently, I was interviewed about my career and what has helped me succeed. Reflecting on my journey, I realised that three key behaviours had been instrumental in my success. These behaviours are so simple that you might find them as helpful as I did.

These three behaviours are particularly beneficial when you take on a new role or position, as they can help you build a strong reputation and demonstrate your value to your team and organisation.

The first behaviour is reliability. Being reliable means doing what you say you will and communicating proactively if you cannot meet a commitment. Reliability will build trust with your colleagues and position you as a go-to person for essential tasks.

The second behaviour is doing what you're asked to do with a good heart. This means approaching each task enthusiastically and positively, no matter how challenging or mundane. Accepting tasks with good grace will demonstrate a willingness to contribute and a commitment to your team's success. This, in turn, will earn you more exciting and challenging tasks that will help you develop your skills and expertise.

The third behaviour is persistence. Success in any field requires persistence and a willingness to push through obstacles and setbacks. By staying focused on your goals and never giving up, you'll demonstrate a commitment and determination that will set you apart from the competition.

These three behaviours require no technical expertise or specialized skills, but they are critical for success in any career. By embodying these behaviours, you'll position yourself for more significant opportunities, exciting projects, and deeper relationships with your colleagues and superiors.

So the next time you take on a new role or position, remember to embrace these three key behaviours: reliability, good-heartedness, and persistence. Doing so will build a strong reputation and demonstrate your value to your team and organization. Over time, this will pay off in ways you can't even imagine.
