Google’s NotebookLM has been around for a while, and I’ve found it incredibly useful as a research tool. For those unfamiliar, it helps pull together and consolidate disparate information, making sense of complex topics in a streamlined way. Perfect for deep dives into various subjects!
However, what caught my eye recently is what I believe to be a new feature. NotebookLM can now generate what sounds like a podcast-style conversation between real people, based entirely on the source material you upload. Imagine an AI-led discussion that feels like you're listening to two people enthusiastically dissecting your content.
Naturally, I had to try this with my book Gardeners Not Mechanics: How to Cultivate Change at Work, and it created the attached conversation about it. You don’t need to listen to the whole thing to get the idea, but it’s quite intriguing.
Now, I can see how one might get tired of hearing the same two people chat enthusiastically about everything, but this feature gives us a glimpse of how generative AI is pushing beyond traditional text-based interactions. It’s starting to invent new ways to engage with thought and information, and I think that's an exciting development.
