ChatGPT's First Mover Advantage Over Google and Microsoft

Are you aware of the latest AI arms race between Google and Microsoft? They are both betting big on their chat-enabled search engines, Bard and Bing, respectively, to revolutionize the way we navigate the internet. However, another player in the game might just end up being the winner - OpenAI's ChatGPT.

ChatGPT is truly disruptive in the sense that Clayton Christensen meant it because it provides AI, quickly and cheaply, to a customer segment that didn't previously have access to the AI technology. This means that even small businesses and startups can benefit from AI, previously only available to large corporations.

Google and Microsoft have a poor track record of being fast followers with game-changing technologies. Bard and Bing have been underwhelming in their public demos, with rudimentary mistakes and issues that don't mesh well with what people use search engines for. On the other hand, OpenAI has nothing to lose and everything to gain, whereas the opposite is true for Google and Microsoft.

So, the fleet of foot OpenAI is most likely to maintain its first mover advantage. OpenAI has already received a $10 billion investment from Microsoft, giving Bing access to a souped-up version of ChatGPT, while Google has announced its chat-enabled search tool, Bard, to compete. However, given OpenAI's head start, it is unlikely that Google and Microsoft will be able to catch up soon.

It would be wise to remember that ChatGPT or its successor products will already be improved beyond what is publicly available now. OpenAI has been working on the technology since 2015 and has made significant progress. This means that the current version of ChatGPT is just the beginning, and we can expect to see even more advancements in the future.

In conclusion, while Google and Microsoft are trying to catch up with OpenAI's ChatGPT, OpenAI will likely maintain its first-mover advantage. With its disruptive technology, OpenAI has democratized AI, making it quickly and cheaply accessible to even small businesses and startups. And with the possibility of even more improvements in the future, ChatGPT has the potential to revolutionize the way we use search engines altogether.
